In the words of her nominator, “the description of the Community Ambassador award seems to be simply a description of Ashley. She works every day to ensure that every young professional in community feels connected, involved and empowered to make a difference.”
Ashley’s energy as she walks in a room lightens up the space (even through a mask!) and her passion for connecting with Young Professionals in Central Indiana is evident. Read below to connect with Ashley and her passion for our community!
Q: How did you react when you found out you were an ELEVATE Awards finalist?
A: I was definitely surprised! As someone who works every day to nominate others and uplift voices, I get used to being behind the scenes. So being nominated is humbling and I appreciate it so much!
Q: If someone were to move to Indy and meet you for the first time, how would you explain the work you do in Central Indiana both through work, and volunteering?
A: Well, I do this every day! Even just this morning I got to meet someone who grew up in Indy, moved to Texas, and now has moved back during the pandemic. And that’s what’s so cool, that is my job. I get to meet new people, listen to their stories, listen to what they feel like they are missing in Indianapolis and why it may not feel like home yet. Then my job is to connect them to whatever it is that they are missing and ensure that it is a meaningful connection for them.
Q: What is your vision for Central Indiana?
A: My vision is more of an expectation, especially after such a challenging 2020. My expectation is that neighbors and colleagues stand up and start seeing people for people. Central Indiana is a place that has an amazing ability for Hoosier Hospitality and that is truly authentic to us whether you are from Indy originally or if you are moving here for the first time. If we all start leaning into this friendly, hospitable place where everyone feels welcome—I think that’s the expectation we all need to have, especially to bridge damages that have been done in the past.
Q: Finish this sentence “Being a great ambassador means to me…”
A: It means helping others around you grow and advance themselves. Being an ambassador is humbling, because it’s beyond just a leadership role. It’s not about you. It’s about guiding others. One of my favorite accomplishments of my professional career has been meeting new people and connecting them to opportunities they hadn’t yet dreamed of for themselves. I believe that my role as an ambassador (in any form) is to say you count. your life and feelings matter to me and I hear you.
Time for some favorites:
Q: Mountains or Beach?
Q: Favorite vacation songs?
A: “Standing Outside the Fire” by Garth Brooks, “Runnin’ Down a Dream” by Tom Petty, “Hold On” by Alabama Shakes, “The Way You Make Me Feel” by Michael Jackson and “I’d Rather Ride with You” by Reba McEntire. I can’t choose just one!
Q: Where will you travel to once it is safe to do so?
A: Anna Maria Island. We’ve had to cancel a trip there multiple times so can’t wait to finally go.
Q: Favorite podcast or book?
A: “Everything’s Figureoutable” by Marie Forleo
Q: Spot in Central Indiana?
A: Eagle Creek. I love getting lost in the woods there.
